SQL Server Reporting Services provides two level of security.

System Level Security
This level of security applies to whole server and provides two roles under it.
Item Level Security
This level of security applied on all items on SSRS server like Reports, DataSources, Datasets, Linked Reports etc.under a specific folder on report server.
These roles can be used for differentiating users, if two different set of reports are deployed on same report server.

System Level Security
This level of security applies to whole server and provides two roles under it.
- System User
- This role is needed for viewing system Properties, Shared schedules and report builder.
- System Administrator
- This role is super user role for administring SSRS.
- User under this can do following thinks
- System Role Assigmnents.
- Define System Role.
- Access Report Builder etc.
Item Level Security
This level of security applied on all items on SSRS server like Reports, DataSources, Datasets, Linked Reports etc.under a specific folder on report server.
These roles can be used for differentiating users, if two different set of reports are deployed on same report server.
Following Roles come under this category.
- Browser
- Can only view reports, report folders and can subscribe to existing reports.
- Content Manager
- User under this role is more like a item level administrator.
- My Reports
- This role is more like a content manager restricted to a specific folder on reports server.
- Publisher
- With this role one can develop and pulish reports and linked reports on to report server.
- Report Builder
- This role allows viewing of report defination.
